About Department of Physics
The Science stream at Gargaon College was introduced in 1969, a decade after the college was established in 1959. In the same year, Physics was incorporated as one of the core subjects in the Pre-University course under Dibrugarh University. The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) program was introduced in 1974, with Physics as one of the core subjects. In 1988, the college began offering a Major in Physics under the B.Sc. curriculum.
Md. A. H. Laskar was the founding faculty member of the Department of Physics. Initially, the department operated with three faculty members. Today, it has grown to a team of five experienced faculty members, including two Ph.D. holders and one currently pursuing a Ph.D., along with two laboratory assistants.
The department is equipped with three classrooms, three laboratory rooms, and a compact library space. It offers a three-year B.Sc. degree program under the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) as well as Major courses under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Department library
Department library of Physics was established in 1994. The department library, with a collection of more than 383 books, serves as a valuable resource for students and faculty. It offers a focused selection of academic texts, research materials, and reference books, providing essential support for coursework, research, and independent study within the department's field of expertise.

The Department of Physics initiated a wall magazine named “RESONANCE” since 2003, that captures a vibrant collection of student creativity, featuring essays, poems and a veriety of articles.The magazine is primarily student concerned and conducted by them with the help of teachers. The magazine is published annually and gives the students a regular exercise of both the brain and the pen.
