About Department of Physics
The science stream of Gargaon College was inducted in 1969, ten years after the establishment of the college (1959). In the same year Physics was introduced as one of the core subjects in the pre-university course under Dibrugarh University. In 1974, B.Sc. course was introduced in the college with Physics as one of the subjects. Major in Physics was introduced in 1988 with B.Sc. course. Md. A. H. Laskar was the founder faculty member of the Department. Initially the department was run by three faculty members, at present the department has a strength of 5 experienced faculty members (members with Ph.D.: 2, pursuing Ph.D.: 1) and two laboratory assistants. The department has three class rooms, three laboratory rooms and a small space for library. The Department offers three-year B.Sc. degree course (under CBCS) and in Major FYUGP Courses (NEP 2020).

Department library of Physics was established in 1994. The department library, with a collection of more than 400 books, serves as a valuable resource for students and faculty. It offers a focused selection of academic texts, research materials, and reference books, providing essential support for coursework, research, and independent study within the department's field of expertise.

The Department of Physics initiated a wall magazine named “RESONANCE” since 2003, that captures a vibrant collection of student creativity, featuring essays, poems and a veriety of articles.The magazine is primarily student concerned and conducted by them with the help of teachers. The magazine is published annually and gives the students a regular exercise of both the brain and the pen.
