Profile of Political Science Department
The Department of Political Science was established in the year 1959. The Department offers H. S. & U. G. (Major & Non Major) courses. The department has a total strength of 4 experienced faculty members with 3 Ph.D., 2 M. Phil. holders and 1 Pursuing Ph.D. The Department has an association named as Gargaon College Political Science Association (GCPSA).

Mission and Vision of the Department:
Mission:
- To provide high-quality education in political science that fosters critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of political systems and theories.
- To promote research initiatives that contribute to the academic community and address contemporary political issues, encouraging faculty and student collaboration.
- To engage with the local and global community through outreach programs, seminars, and workshops that highlight the importance of political awareness and civic responsibility.

Best Practices of the Department
- The department takes an innovative step by introducing four merit awards to the meritorious students of Political Science of this college at undergraduate level. These awards are sponsored by the family members of the four departed faculty members of the department. Apart from these, "Phanidhar Gogoi Memorial Award" is instituted by Dr. Yuvaraj Gogoi, Assistant Professor of the Department in memory of his departed father.
- Mentoring of students from economically backward categories.
- The Department has a special book bank facility for economically backward students.
- Special programmes like coaching for MA Entrance and Spoken English classes.
Future Plan of the Department
The department of Political Science intends to develop itself into a centre of excellence and excellent human resource development and to that end, it has prepared a perspective plan which includes the following:
- To provide quality education to the students.
- To increase social awareness programmes in the backward areas for social upliftment.
- To increase awareness programmes in the neighbouring areas on national unity and harmony.
Department Library
The Department of Political Science has a functional library with about 550 books and one daily newspaper which offers various educational resources and materials to the students.

The Department of Political Science offers Honours in Political Science for under graduate course. The intake capacity of the department is 100 for undergraduate course. The Department aslo offers post graduation programme in Political Science under affiliation of Dibruagarh University. The intake capacity of the department is 15 for post-graduate course.
