Profile of Assamese Department

About the Department

The Assamese Department was established in the year 1959. The Department introduced its Honours course in 1966. The department recieved the permanent affiliation in the year 1981. The department has a strength of four Associate Professors and two Assistant Professors (Ph.D: 2, M. Phil: 2, pursuing Ph.D.: 1). The Department has an association named as PRAKTAN SIKHYARTHI MANCHA, ASOMIYA BIBHAG. The Department has been publishing a Wall Magazine named as RAMDHENU since 2003 prepared by the students under the supervision of the teachers. An Annual Journal JAGRITI is published by the students under the supervision and financial aid of the department teachers.

Vision and Mission of the Department

Vision

To increase of Awareness and interest towards Assamese language, literature and culture among students.
To disseminate knowledge on tradition and growth of language and literature through systematic study of Assamese language, literature and culture.
To enhance responsibility among students to work for the enrichment of Assamese language and literature.
To impart knowledge on linguistic diversity and communication of Assam through study of the other current languages of Assam.

Mission

To instill moral, social and aesthetic values in students so that they can march ahead with optimism.
To provide basic understanding of the various literatures and their literary critical studies.
To make students aware of the diversity and integrity of Indian literature through the study of the same.
To impart education on the technological growth of Assamese language in relation with modern information technology.
To provide vocational applied training.

Future Plan of the Department

To start the PG course in Assamese.
To undertake research projects.
To organize National Seminar/Workshop/Conferences.
To organize popular talks.
